That was fun!

Bound was smaller and less impressive than I'd been expecting. This was OK, because it meant I didn't feel terribly out of my depth.

The "Back to School" theme was a repeat from September, it seemed. Nobody much paid attention to it. [livejournal.com profile] shadowflyer tried for an English schoolboy look -- tie askew, shirttails hanging out beneath sweater, schoolboy cap -- but that was about it. [livejournal.com profile] shadowflyer, [livejournal.com profile] eirehound, [livejournal.com profile] garsha and I all went together, and Laura from work was there with a bunch of people she knew, and that was fine.

[livejournal.com profile] immlass, you know how you were looking at the one legged pants and saying "where I come from, they call that a skirt?" I found out why they have the dumb name -- it's because BOYS wear them! And look pretty silly in them, too. So would girls, I guess -- they're inherently silly-looking garments, I think.

I totally forgot that it's shoes first, THEN corset, when I was getting dressed. I won't forget again. I had that thing laced tight enough to make it impossible to bend at the waist, which was the only way I managed any cleavage at all. Side effect I hadn't planned on: chafing under the ARMS when I danced. Not too bad, though.

The combination of the plaid inserts in my skirt and the red sneakers tipped the outfit more towards punk than goth, which was still fine. I didn't look out of place, although I think I was the only one without dumb-looking six inch platform boots. What happened to real combat boots, huh?

I am officially Older Than Dirt -- the song that pulled me irresistibly onto the dance floor was "Just Like Heaven." Followed by "Enjoy the Silence." I was not, however, the oldest one there. A woman named Linda, who was the only one pulling off a romantigoth look effectively, admitted to being 40, with a 19-year-old kid, when she heard me and [livejournal.com profile] garsha talking about our kids (9 and 4).

And now I need to go put on shoes and start some laundry and do some yardwork. Hope the coffee kicks in soon.
