Charlotte really, really wanted her own livejournal.

So I set her up with one. [livejournal.com profile] melovechocolate.

It's going to be friends-only, and so far, I have only allowed her to add people who I think said it was OK for an eight-year-old to be reading their public posts.

[livejournal.com profile] ghilledhu, [livejournal.com profile] darthsatyr, [livejournal.com profile] lordavon, [livejournal.com profile] alcarnor, [livejournal.com profile] shadowflyer, [livejournal.com profile] garsha, [livejournal.com profile] eirehound... you can read her stuff. If you add her back to your own friendslist, you might want to employ judicious use of filters.

Anyone else who wants to read her posts, if I know you in RL, let me know, and I'll have her add you. And if you add her back, do watch those filters.

I would love to be one of her friends. Given what I use my journal, it's best that I not add her as a friend, even with filters. :)

Of course, if I do post something g-rated that you want her to read, you have my permission to link to any post you deem fit.

And I love the journal name!

Heh. Even my public posts have language and content probably inappropriate for an 8-year-old, even a bright one. (See today's post about Spider Jerusalem's Guide To Voting, for example.)

But the journal name is far too cute.

Yay for Charlotte!! I'm usually g-rated, but I'll try to make sure to filter anything that's not.

Just a point -- if she adds them to her Friends list, anything they post publically will show up on her Friends view, whether they add her back or not. So even if they don't add her, they'll have to filter.

Oooh, good point. I'll create a g-rated LJ persona who exists solely to participate in Charlotte's flist. I have to sign off of this one first, though.

That's a very good point ..

I, as a matter of personal principle, don't like to use friends-only. I feel strongly that there's a better forum for communication to friends only - it's called email. I also feel strongly that secrecy and concealment are not good practice, and I don't fancy keeping track of who's privy to what and who I excluded from what. It's not a game I want to play, especially as honesty, openness, and global integrity (being the same person in all contexts) are something I am working on hard in my own life.

So whatever i post, I post with public access with very little exception.

While I don't tend heavily toward obscenity or profanity, I do live, frankly, what many people would call a somewhat bizarre life, and I hold many views that others may consider puzzling (at best), outré, or downright grotesque. I will be posting about that.

I sometimes post links to material that it might not be in Charlotte's best interest to be pointed to - witness my recent link to the Rude Pundit.

All of this rests on the assumption I have held until now that my known readership is entirely composed of adults, and at that, mostly of adults that are prepared to understand and accept some of the facets of my life that are anything but mainstream.

Now, granted, you've been reading my journal, and evidently nothing you've seen in it has persuaded you that it's unwise to have Charlotte reading it. That's your decision as a parent; but still, the knowledge that an eight-year-old (even an eight-year-old raised as openly and well as yours) is routinely seeing my journal may have some kind of a chilling effect on my posting.

It is easy enough for me to make a filter entitled "Everybody but Charlotte", but it's still a friends-only filter that excludes random people (some of whom may want to see and may even be particularly looking for) from that material.

But on the other hand, I would like to be able to read Charlotte's journal.

I don't have an answer. I'm flattered to be included, but we will have to play it by ear.

I've created tikvah_cs for reading the journal. This way, no worries about filters and such, and I get to keep in touch with my favorite little (*cough* *hellion* *cough*) princess.

Good on you for being good and careful parents!

And I hope she enjoys her journal safely and much.
(Just wanted to say that even though I'm not acquainted with Miss Charlotte:-)

Hee! My eight-year old (now nine-year old) wanted her own journal too! So I set [livejournal.com profile] capoeira_girl up, and she hasn't updated for months. Sigh... I had such hopes for her. She actually does write HP fanfic (terrible stuff to tell the truth), but she writes it long-hand and never wants to type it up.

I'll be curious to see whether Charlotte keeps it up. Also, if she wants a friend who like her lied about her age to get a Journal, I'm sure Sandy would love a friend. Currently, she only has me, her father, my mother and my best friend. *grin*

And I misspelled her user name. It's [livejournal.com profile] capoeria_girl...

That's unfortunate... considering the first one is actually the one spelled correctly...

I'd suggest you don't let her anywhere near my journal, it's not kid-safe in general, even if most of the posts are fairly innocous... the ones that aren't, really aren't.

Sure, I'd love to read it. ^_^

And no worries, I already have a pervs filter set up. Anything else is meme's and mild RL news.

I probably cuss too much to be allowed onto her journal . . . but she's welcome to add Kira, who's [livejournal.com profile] kiraboo :D

Took a look through my recent entries. Nothing jumps out at me as inappropriate. If you see something, let me know.
