I have fooled around Long Enough.

I'm going outside to sand the porch.

hmm...

is this a major porch-sanding effort? We have a large porch that definitely needs something, and I'm sure the beginning of that is sanding. The idiots who bought the house out of foreclosure, prettied it up, and sold it to us, simply painted the whole porch with brown paint. Which, of course, is now peeling horribly.

Are you using something electric? I'm not sure what we'll do - maybe end up hiring someone, but then I keep thinking how much fun a belt-sander might be to play with (heh heh)

Did I ever properly thank you for your wedding cake help, way back when? If not - thanks! They were yummy, and pretty much presentable ;)

It's pretty freakin' major. I've been nibbling away at it for two weeks.

First I took all the porch furniture off, and left it cluttering my front yard most fetchingly.

Then I swept and vacuumed.

Then I scrubbed down the porch with TSP, to get up most of the ground-in dirt.

I'm going over the peeling paint, first with a wire brush (on a power drill), then with a belt sander. I borrowed those from my very kind next-door neighbor, who is one of those Guys With A Workshop. He even gave me a pair of safety goggles and a dust mask to wear with them.

So far I've completed the short side of the L that is my porch.

After I sweep up the paint chips and dust, I'll vacuum again, and then -- FINALLY -- I'll get to paint, which should be the shortest part of the job.

I'm glad your cake turned out well! Let's just not talk about the one I had to do for class. 90 degree heat and all butter buttercream don't mix.

Lovely cooking, sanding the porch...

I have decided that Rikibeth is more woman than I'll ever be and more man than I'll ever get.

Did I mention that I also sew, and can do basic car repairs, given the shop manual?
