Finally got back in touch with the contact person at Big Bank.

In addition to the requirements for the I-9 form, they insist on seeing your actual Social Security card. Well. I probably haven't seen mine in a decade. No idea where it is.

Guess where I'm going tomorrow?

At least I can take care of the kiddo's name change thing at the same time.

With luck, there will still be positions open when the new card arrives.

Also to do tomorrow: go to the library to use their computers to order transcripts, because the Geniuses are finally replacing the cable they broke on Toaster LAST time, and it might not be ready tomorrow.

ARGH.

The social security office should be able to get you a card the same day. (They got me mine almost instantaneously when I had to get a replacement.)

Mine definitely does not; they mail you one in a couple of weeks. however, they do give you a receipt which some agencies will take as an appropriate temporary replacement.

Just fyi, the app you used to post is putting your actual location in - down to a street address type of thing - 148 etc...

You might review the I-9. There are other options available. (Still might be best to get a copy of your card.)

The woman at the window said 5-7 days which isn't as bad as what the Big Bank contact said, at least.
