Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] bigbrotherinlaw, I now know how to change a bicycle tire!

I ALSO have a set of tire irons and a fairly spiffy foot pump. Which I did not expect. Thank you!

The tube wasn't even seriously leaking. I think when the kiddo inflated it, she just didn't inflate it all the way, which made it go flat again quickly. Problem solved.

[livejournal.com profile] starcat_jewel, this is the sort of racing bike with modified brakes, so you can grip the levers either from the bent-over position or from the upright crossbar.

The rear tire has some dry rot, but is probably ok for the conditioning rides that I'll need to do before I can even contemplate a 13-mile run with a big damn hill in the middle.

But yay, bicycle help!

Way to go! Do be careful of that tire with dry rot. I had the experience of being out on a ride and having the TIRE blow, not the tube. The entire thing just SPLIT. At which point your own choice is to walk/carry the bike home. There ain't no more getting on that baby. (It was the most terrifying sound, too. Like a gun shot. And I was in a bad neighborhood. Scared the bejeebus out of me.)
