New Paltz, NY is, what, two hours from Hartford?

Assuming the mayor doesn't let a stack of misdemeanor indictments stop him, who's up for a drive to stand outside the town hall and cheer?

I've got a rainbow flag to wave -- it's flying from the front porch right now.

We could get some posterboard and make some "Congratulations Newlyweds" signs, maybe some of those wedding bubbles -- less messy than rice, and maybe an early-morning jaunt to the wholesale market around Airport Road to pick up a bunch of flowers to pass out?

The trouble is, it's [livejournal.com profile] pixel and [livejournal.com profile] seeliefey's housewarming party this Saturday, and I don't want to miss that.

And next Saturday, [livejournal.com profile] shadowflyer's band is playing both days.

I really, really want to go somewhere and show my support in person. It makes me so full of happiness just to see the pictures... and what a wonderful moment in history. Even if there are setbacks... I think it's really going to happen from this batch.

I have Tuesdays off as well as Saturdays. Stay tuned for further legal developments, more locations joining in, and other factors affecting the Road Trip Plans. And leave a comment if you want in.

A misdemeanor charge of solemnizing marriages for participants who don't have a proper marriage license. Which is perfectly factually true. His argument is that he's reading the law to say that marriages are valid in New York if solemnized by a proper authority, and he IS by state law a proper authority, and that licenses aren't, strictly speaking, required.

It's one of those nice Talmudic conflicting-interpretations things that keep lawyers busy. The sense I get from the indictment is that they're going through the paperwork dance, and giving the arguments a chance to play out... a much more measured response than instant constitutional amendments.
