Old-fashioned rolled oats cooked in the microwave with a pinch of salt and served with butter, half and half, and maple syrup isn't quite up to the standard of Johnny D's, but it's awfully good.

Also, no raisins.

This morning, I made OKCG2 oatmeal. Really tasty, and also with no raisins.

Him: So what did you use for the granola?
Me: Well, I added a pinch of salt, cream, brown sugar, cinnamon, and slivered almonds.
Him: Right, but what did you use for the basic granola?
Me: . . . Um. Oats?

I've discovered an unusually good comination: granola (about half a cup), a cup of plain, fat-free yoghurt, an ounce of tahini, and a Thb. of honey. Voila. Enough food to keep you going for a good six hours.

I am not so sure I'd like the tahini in that. Tahini belongs in hummus, or in the tahini-lemon-yogurt sauce for falafel... with granola? interesting.

It's actually surprisingly mild. Tahini, yoghurt, and honey are used commonly in the same cuisines, and they do a good job of balancing each other out (acidic, creamy/bitter, and sweet). The granola just gives it a little texture and some flavour. And, of course, you can always just make your own to match Mediterranean or Middle Eastern flavours. :)

Part of it may also be that I believe in the sort of granola that has freeze-dried raspberries in it, or vanilla-almond, or gingerbread flavored.

AHhh, okay. That may be it.

That said, my fave to use in this stuff is banana nut.

Reading the latest Trader Joe's flyer, I was surprised to see that they now sell pre-made frozen, microwaveable rolled oats oatmeal (with maple and brown sugar).
