to my friendslist, but today especially [livejournal.com profile] djinnthespazz...

Thank you. Your support, encouragement, and advice have really meant a lot to me. Just hearing people confirm that I'm not the crazy one here is amazingly comforting.

Tomorrow I have the DAY OFF again. Wooo! I'm going to set up the Excellent Vintage Stereo System (wish me luck reading the wiring diagrams), and hook in the external CD burner drive, and start burning file copies of all my vinyl. Heh. I will be able to play SWEENEY TODD in the kitchen when I've done that. Not to mention I'll be able to make mix discs from my library. Soundtracky goodness, yay!

I need to find my mother-in-law's carrot jalapeno soup recipe, because I'm going to make that one Thursday. Can't fake that one by eye yet.

And "code switching" is a FASCINATING phenomenon. When I'm talking to the boss, I find myself pulling out the Yiddish words and phrases I hear in my family -- well, if customers HAVE their mishegas, it's a useful word, and one I know she knows -- and then, when I'm talking to Robert, it's all punctuated with "dude" and "it's all good" and I've started picking up his "I'm not feeling it, yo." And I have learned to accept "off the hook" as a superlative. Today he said it about my Cook's Illustrated oatmeal scones, which baked off perfectly -- and, from someone who's been baking for a living since about the time I was born, that's praise indeed.

I'll start winding down soon, right?
