Celtic Roots festival review

We had lawn tickets. Thunderstorms were predicted, but we were not deterred; however, the quantity of rain over the preceding week meant that our lawn chairs were soaked. Solved the problem by buying new lawn chairs on clearance at CVS.
Waiting for prescription at CVS plus time spent wiring in new car stereo meant we missed the Manchester Fire Dept. Pipe and Drum band, which was a pity, because they're good, but they weren't the main reason we were going.
First time we'd gone to the Summer Wind venue. Not bad. Small pavilion, so lawn seats were not a bad option at all. Shuttle bus from the corporate parking lot also v. handy. Wish New York Renaissance Faire would have a shuttle bus.
We got there in time for the Morgans, a local group with excellent instrumental talent, but a little dicey on the really tight vocal harmony. Still, they were fun to listen to.
Cruised through the vendor booths. Pleased to see that the caterers were offering Ten Penny Ale, a tasty local microbrew. Other food offerings good. Caterers v. generous about giving out free cups of ice -- someone must have told them that heat stroke is bad publicity. Not much else worth spending money on -- until I have disposable income to use on pretty jewelry. Got Charlotte a chunk of lapis engraved with "Believe," which pleased her immensely, and was inexpensive.
Skies opened up exactly when Clan An Drumma came onstage. Worth sitting under big golf umbrella to hear them. Just drums and pipes, sometimes vocals -- POWERFUL stuff.
Went up and danced in front when Gaelic Storm played. Good set. Much fun. Girl dancing like old-school Deadhead, but too young to have been one Back In The Day... the style has not died out. Small children taken to Gaelic Storm shows invariably cite "Johnny Tar" as favorite song. Unclear why children take so readily to song about man dying of alcohol poisoning, but notable phenomenon.
Natalie McMaster took forever to come on. Turned out that the band's equipment didn't make the flight -- nothing arrived until 1/2 hour before show. Slack granted. Natalie McMaster is insanely energetic. Wonderful musician. Followed set of hornpipes with "Lay Down Sally."
Clan An Drumma did a final set after, but we were all getting tired, and small one needed to get to bed... so we did not stay for it. Would have liked to.
Would happily go again next year.
