We win.

The plow-berg is shoveled through enough to let a car out. Both cars are cleared of snow. The front walk and the sidewalk are both shoveled out.

[livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine: both cars, slightly more than half the plow-berg, and about a quarter of the sidewalk. One break to blow nose, minor humorous complaining.

Me: The front steps, the front walk, a little less than half the plow-berg, and about half the sidewalk. Oh, plus walking back to the garage to get more shovels. Occasional cussing at recalcitrant snow.

[livejournal.com profile] melovechocolate: Less than a quarter of the sidewalk. And copious amounts of whining, complaining, and declaring the utter impossibility of the task. I told her that a child who owes me nearly $40 on overtime minutes on the cell phone bill has no complaining rights at all.

Giant Emo Drama, including "you're not even my mother!"

I am a bad mom. I just looked at [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine and laughed.

19 hours of unmedicated labor was just my imagination, huh, kiddo?

But it's done. And it only took us about an hour.

And then I walked down to Mo's with a travel mug and got COFFEE.

I think this is part of being a good mom, and it's what I do. My mother used to cry (literally) and then go into this rant about how ungrateful I was and what a mean child I was and How Can You Be This Way?!?

"I hate you!"
"Ha! No you don't. And you really don't if you still want to get your allowance."
"I don't hate you but you just don't understand."
"I know I don't. When I was your age I was doing stupid shit instead of dealing with everything. I'm proud of you that you're dealing with it, even when you hate me."
"I don't hate you."
"Then try not to say it just to hurt me."
Then she has to hug me.

This was... last weekend. She leaves and Jeff says, "I would have been smacked across the face for that."

I said, "I was, and then I smacked my mother back and called her a bitch. Not effective parenting. Violence begets violence. This is much better."

Oh yeah. But the loss of Bamboozle and the phone restrictions were the tradeoff for that.

Chores=money. She is on catbox duty until the school year ends, I swear.

I'd have to go back and check the post, but although it probably was, that's an ideal to shoot for. She's SUCH a teenager, I don't expect it to happen much in practice.

I call Kira "Pubert" when she acts like that, which inevitably sends her into a tizzy.

I am also going to hell as a parent ;)

Sounds like a good mom to me. Stuff like that really flumoxxes the people who try to whine their way out of doing things. With luck, they learn to stop whining so much (to you, anyway, everybody else is still fair game).
