The music meme.

1) Put your digital music source on random.

2) Post the first line of the first 25 songs that come up. Although if the title is in the first line, it appears to be the Done Thing to go to the second line. If that happens, I'll include an ellipsis. Also, you are allowed to skip instrumentals. However, you are not allowed to skip embarrassing songs. Skipping duplicates from the same artist is okay, although not required. Putting them under a cut is just good common sense.

3) Let people guess the songs and artists. No googling allowed. Cross out songs as they're guessed.

4) Most versions of the meme say "Guess as many as you can!" here. I think that's obvious, isn't it?

You are of course invited to propagate this in your own journal.

I was going to say that [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine is TOTALLY NOT ALLOWED to play on my version, because, due to technical issues (like my computer being ANCIENT) most of the music on my iPod is hers anyway, and I have to ask nicely to get her to load any of my own music onto it... but she has, and we'll see how this works.

1)...And the tap drips under the strip light "10.15 Saturday Night," the Cure, identified by [livejournal.com profile] mrpet

2) Watch your mouth (Oh, oh, oh) Because your speech is slurred enough - [livejournal.com profile] fasteronfire525 has correctly identified this as Panic! At The Disco. The title still needs guessing. Anyone? "Nails for Breakfast, Tacks for Snacks." Right!

3) Don't try to call, there are some bridges that burn "Ruins," Melissa Etheridge, identified by [livejournal.com profile] shadowflyer

4) I made it through the wilderness, somehow I made it through - [livejournal.com profile] omgimnaked and [livejournal.com profile] auspeople recognized "Like A Virgin." The version on my iPod is NOT Madonna. Hint: from a soundtrack album, one of my favorites to play at work. And [livejournal.com profile] trowa_barton correctly places it on the "Threesome" soundtrack! The cover artist is Teenage Fanclub, for whatever that's worth. It's a bratty, snotty cover, and I adore it.

5) Back me down from backing up, hold your breath now, it's stacking up "Straitjacket Feeling," All-American Rejects, [livejournal.com profile] as_i_am

6) Why're you trying to second guess me?

7) Cashed in all my chips tonight

8) That young boy without a name, anywhere I'd know his face "What's the Matter Here," 10,000 Maniacs, identified by [livejournal.com profile] feste_sylvain, who also noticed my new journal title

9) You know it - you know that I got the boom with the bit and you babies gonna flip - yo yo yo "Cocaine and Toupees," Mindless Self Indulgence, identified by [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine because I would NEVER have listened to them in the first place if it weren't for her

10) My heart ticks in beat with these kids that I grew up with "Grenade Jumper," Fall Out Boy, [livejournal.com profile] as_i_am

11) ...pages of what's for sale, what's on the auction block "Classifieds," The Academy Is..., identified by [livejournal.com profile] omgimnaked

12) I spent so many nights in, spent so many nights in, drivin' around in my '62

13) Without a sound I took her down and dressed in red and blue I squeezed "Drowning Lessons," My Chemical Romance, identified by [livejournal.com profile] the_red_shoes

14) There's a solitary man crying, "Hold me." "The Card Cheat," The Clash. From "London Calling." Mostly gotten by [livejournal.com profile] the_red_shoes.

15) Having trouble trying to sleep "Brain Stew," Green Day, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] kadath

16) Staring in your eyes I found a match not to fold

17) In the nighttime I watch the day's events

18) Oh, how do you do, young Willie MacBride, do you mind if I sit here down by your graveside? "No Man's Land" a/k/a "Green Fields of France", identified by [livejournal.com profile] immlass in its original (I would have said Eric Bogle too) and by [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine as the Dropkick Murphys version because she knows perfectly well it's the only one on my iPod and we just won't talk about that time I missed the exit to her house because we were singing along to it, right?

19) She was frigid like a Bible when she met her boyfriend Michael "Slap and Tickle," Squeeze, identified by [livejournal.com profile] gnomi

20) What if I wanted to break, laugh it all off in your face, what would you do? "The Kill," 30 Seconds to Mars, identified by [livejournal.com profile] omgimnaked

21) By vigil's light this night to keep

22) Hello, darkness, my old friend Sounds of Silence, Simon & Garfunkel, guessed by [livejournal.com profile] immlass and [livejournal.com profile] omgimnaked

23) Why should I take your hand when you can't promise happy endings? "Thoughts Before Me," Amber Pacific, identified by [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine

24) I'm the living result, I'm a man who's been hurt a little too much - [livejournal.com profile] cestunreve gets the title, "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down." Given that, some of you have NO EXCUSE for not getting the artist now.

25) There's so much discomfort, I can't seem to ignore all this "Piercing Through," Phathom, identified by [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine because NOBODY else has even heard of this band (but they're good, I swear)

Okay, [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine IS allowed to guess, because I would not know most of these from their first lines! And there's one where I think she's the only one on my friendslist who's even heard of the band.

Have at it!

I'm equally a fan of old and newer Cure, but "Head on the Door" especially will hold a place in my heart, just because of my age.
