- blackadder:
Snarky British comedy. Rowan Atkinson proving the Black Doublet Effect -- the man is hopelessly funny-looking, but in the Elizabethan season? He's HOT. It's gotta be the black doublet. Miranda Richardson as the Queen. Hugh Laurie as the thick-as-a-whale-omelet Prince Regent. And Baldrick! If you haven't seen it, you're missing a treat. - costume:
I never outgrew playing dress-up. I started sewing my own costumes (very badly) when I was nine. I joined the SCA because it was another chance to play dress-up. I've competed in SF convention masquerades. I've made elaborate gowns and Halloween costumes for my daughter. I've done some Colonial-era stuff too. And there was the impromptu stuff for the Serenity screenings. I'll always love it. - fabric:
Can't do much costuming without fabric, can you? I'm an addict. I know it. - grammar:
The Internet is a WRITTEN medium. If you can't be bothered to use proper grammar, you come across as an IDIOT. - japan:
Probably started when I was four and my grandparents gave me a book of poorly-translated and gorgeously-illustrated haiku called "Little Pictures From Japan." Reinforced by the Rumer Godden Japanese dollhouse books a little later. Really seriously picked up when I based a roleplaying character's homeworld off of Japanese culture -- both samurai-period and modern overlay. Now I know enough to know how little I really know, but I'm still fascinated. - muppets:
Who doesn't love Muppets? I probably learned to read from "Sesame Street," I watched all the Muppet Show episodes when they came out, saw the movies, bought the DVDs... really I just ought to have a colorbar that says "Muppets are love," because they are. - pennywhistle:
I learned to play soprano recorder when I was seven. The D whistle fingering is pretty much the same. Irish music sessions are a lot of fun, especially with free beer. - roleplaying games:
My friend Anita, when I was in fifth grade and she was in sixth, introduced me to D&D. I was already a Tolkien addict, so of course I liked the game world, and otherwise it was let's-pretend with a little more structure. Of course I was hooked. - smut:
I read it, I write it... good times. - warner bros. cartoons:
Marvin the Martian. The Giant Hairy Sneaker Monster, who's only sometimes called Gossamer. Garibaldi and his Daffy Duck shrine. The way that Bugs Bunny started out with a strange resemblance to Clark Gable. Kill the Wabbit. Saturday morning cartoons of my childhood, Sunday mornings dead from sleep deprivation in the consuite, animation festivals in college... that's all, folks.
