Embarrassing musical moment of the day
Oct. 19th, 2005 05:34 pmPutting on Fall Out Boy's "Under the Cork Tree" for background while noodling on the computer isn't TOO embarrassing. Sure, they're very pop, but there's nothing inherently wrong with pop, and I like catchy songs. And wow, they're catchy -- it was a little bit hard to tell at Warped, but then
eternaleponine played the CD for me on our Six Flags road trip, and I had to go out and buy it pretty much right after, because I could not get the songs out of my head!
Hearing a familiar-sounding 80s riff at the beginning of "Nobody Puts Baby In The Corner" isn't so awful, either. I'm hearing quoted 80s riffs everywhere now, it seems. (And, just as a side comment, lifting a line from "Dirty Dancing" for a song title amuses me a lot.)
However, when you realize that the line "Drink down that gin and kerosene" is being sung to the same little melody as "Poor old Johnny Ray" from the opening of "Come On, Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners... THAT's a little embarrassing.
What's REALLY embarrassing is how much I still like the sound of it.

mind you, I haven't LISTENED to them yet, 'cause I haven't poked the site on the upstairs computer with the working sound card, but if the T-shirt is entertaining enough just on its own... there you go.
