..because I did not actually stay to listen to any of the bands at Pipes in the Valley yesterday.

I wanted to. I really wanted to. But the cold I've been fighting for a few days was worse yesterday, so I asked shadowflyer to pick up some DayQuil for me so I could ignore it.

Bad idea.

DayQuil is missing the antihistamine part of NyQuil, so it's not supposed to make you sleepy. That means that what's left is acetaminophen (which is, as far as I've been able to tell by results, pretty much inert), the cough suppressant dextromethorphan (damned near inert, although not QUITE as useless) and a whacking huge dose of pseudoephedrine.

You know, the stuff that's chemically similar to SPEED.

I took it right before we left the house. By the time we got to the plaza, I was feeling irritable and paranoid and dizzy like when River is panicking on Miranda and the camera is going round and round and round in circles and when Dicey Riley started to play the first bagpipe blast went through my head like a spike.

The soup that shadowflyer bought me on the sensible grounds that it might be low blood sugar didn't help either. Didn't hurt, just didn't help.

So I let everyone know, and walked to the bus stop downtown and caught a bus home.

So no Dark Millenium last night either, and no Six Flags today... also no pheresis donation today, which I feel bad about, because there was someone in need, but they don't want you when you're sick...

I ought to feel better soon, and I start my new job on the 10th.

Have you tried Claretin-D? It has loratadine as well as pseudoephedrine, and I find it works decently well without drowsifying. Surprisingly, the generic version seems to work just as well and is half the price.

Last year I got some Allegra-D from a friend who got it otc in Canada. Wish it were otc here -- that stuff worked better than anything else I've tried.

If Claritin-D has pseudoephedrine in it, I am not touching it, thanks. I don't need another attack of paranoia and dizziness.

And neither plain Claritin nor Allegra actually relieves my allergies. Not Zyrtec, either. I have better luck with the Bio-Allers homeopathic Tree Pollen formula, so I'm sticking with it.

And now that I have a job that gives me weekends off, yes, I am interested in the Goddess masquerade, and should be able to start work on it soon.

See, for me the loratedine counters the spazzy effects of the pseudoephedrine. But YMMV.

And yay! that you're still in the masquerade! *does happy dance* Honestly, if it becomes a hassle, it can be as simple as you need it to be. Chiton + veil + pomegranate = Persephone.

Light gauzy thing on the back of the head, iirc. Or you can not worry about it. :) Either way: simple chiton + pomegranate = Persephone.
