My thrift-shopping fu is strong.
Feb. 19th, 2005 09:21 pmSo, while I am waiting for
shadowflyer to get home from the Noah Webster event that I had to bag out of because chest cold and woodwinds don't mix, I might as well brag.
Tuesday, I had a major fit of "I need new clothes." As we are still on the broke side, I decided that thrift shopping was the way to go. I asked if we could liberate $40 from the household budget. Answer: yes.
The Salvation Army on Shield Street had all winter sweaters $1.99, and half off blue tickets, and some other things going.
I cleaned out my closet first, discarding things that no longer fit my style. The entire pile was rose-pink, chambray-blue, cream, and black (I know, but the black things were incredibly corporate-dowdy).
I didn't even know what I wanted when I went in there, so I started by flipping through the skirt rack, grabbing whatever appealed to me. Apparently what I wanted was straight or pleated miniskirts. I wound up with one olive, one charcoal, one plaid that I'm going to shorten, and a long pleated black linen skirt.
Sweaters were also a big score -- I found a black cashmere one. Also large tunic-y ones in grey and purple, and a grey jersey long sleeve top.
The niftiest thing, though, was a black velvet evening gown, for $6.50. No, I haven't got anywhere to wear it. Yet. But it's got a collar style halter top and it's backless and it fits me beautifully, and $6.50? I'd be so sorry if I didn't.
shadowflyer got a couple of shirts (one green, one grey), a green sweater, and a pair of black pants. As he didn't find any tweed jackets, the way he'd hoped to, we decided to quickly check out the Hadassah thrift store on the way home.
No tweed jackets. But I got a black leather miniskirt for $2! Also a thin red wool twinset, also $2.
I think we spent, total, just over $50 for the two of us.
Yay thrift-shopping fu!
