... when you're tasting a pot of chili AT HOME, and you grab for a plastic spoon.

It's damn good chili. shadowflyer added an entire can of chipotles en adobo to it, and it was fierce, but we ate it with lots of cheese and sour cream, and now the leftovers have gotten additional meat and additional tomatoes, and it's down to pleasantly hot.

So I'm going to go eat chili.

Chilimania appears to be the big thing right now. Must be the weather. I made some nice black bean chili last week, a friend and his girlfriend collaborated on a batch (they made the same chipotles en adobo mistake), another friend made some last night, and here's you with yours. It all gave me such a sense of unity until yesterday, when I made beet risotto and felt like a freak and a pariah when I found out how many of my friends hate beets. Excuses ranged from "They're red and slimy" to "I was force-fed too many as a child" to the elegant simplicity of "They're...beets." Fortunately, I wasn't cooking for anyone but myself. And I thought the risotto was yummy, dammit!
