Ask ataniell93 or biichan, it has some significance to their Dylan Mulciber/Alastor Moody pairing. I do not possess sufficient esoteric knowledge to explain it, although I *might* be able to follow their explanation if they went slow.

However, the fact that I know that that's why "9/81" is on my suggestion list supports my "devoted fangirl" claim.

The origin of 9/81

They have a batshit enemy, Alec DeVries, who is an arithmancer. Alec claims to have known since childhood that Dylan is Nine, which is a lot like a fundamentalist Christian saying that someone is 666. (Actually Alec would probably point out that 6+6+6 is 18, which is 1+8, which is 9, if we asked him.)

Anyhow, Alec says that Alastor is 81, and that he is the multiple and Dylan is the root. In HoIF, which is canon thru GoF, Dylan and Alastor are on the down low from day one thru the end of 5th year. (I have to say this because we also do LW which is blatantly AU, and they're openly together in that, and more people know it because it's on LJ.)

So in HoIF Alec is the boy who cried wolf for insisting for years that they are together because of the Arithmantic connection between them. In LW he's mostly annoying and/or comic relief. His LW journal is politesociety.

Anyhow, someone wrote '9/81' in an LJ post or a chat (I can't recall which) and it just...took off. Probably because it's easier than typing Moody/Mulciber. There's also -9/27 which is Tom Riddle/Lucius Malfoy. Alec is biichan's character.
