shadowflyer , the kiddo's dad, is in the hospital (I don't yet know WHICH hospital) on dialysis. Looks like his chronic kidney condition has deteriorated. Don't know how long he'll be there.
Kiddo is, naturally, a wreck. Visiting this evening and bringing his laptop.
More details as events warrant.

Date: 2010-09-21 02:27 pm (UTC)The kiddo is 15, which in some ways makes it better, but in some makes it worse -- she's sadly over-experienced with important grownups in hospitals, from assorted grandparental health issues, to the time our then-triad-partner discovered she was diabetic only when she collapsed in diabetic coma, to the stroke and eventual death of her godmother two years ago. Little kids' fears can be calmed by soothing generalities ("X is in the hospital so the doctors can make hir better," that sort of thing). A 15-year-old is plenty old enough to understand just how serious it really is.
