I liked my clothes, though.

That's my Mischa jacket, which is still at 100% compliments-per-wearing; an Ego Likeness tank top (I guess my arm is blocking the logo); an antique 1880s white pique walking skirt with buttons down the front, cut to accommodate a bustle; and the purple ballet flats.

I was done by 11:30 AM today. I did errands after -- picking up a bag of corn stickers from a Freecycler, returning used printer cartridges to Staples, picking up a bleach pen for me and a Dryel kit for [livejournal.com profile] gehayi, bringing it over to [livejournal.com profile] gehayi, stopping in at T-Mobile to have them copy over all the data from my old SIM card (from when I lost my phone last summer) onto my phone again. Then I got hit by a nap attack, so that was it for being productive. Dinner was leftovers.

I may have another week or even two left with this job, but it's certainly not going to be full-time hours.

Where on earth did you find a 130-year-old skirt? I want one!

Oona's Experienced Clothing, in Harvard Square. Another useful place to look would be Who Is Sylvia?, in Brattleboro, Vermont. I have a 1913ish blouse I got there.

Since you know antique clothing well, any idea where to get an old fur jacket repaired? It was my grandmother's and now fits me well as a mid length jacket, it was full legnth on her but she was 4'6" or so. It is curly lamb or something along that line.

PS nice outfit, awesome jacket.

I would actually try contacting furriers -- they are not so thick on the ground as they once were, but they still exist, and repairs and re-cutting are usually part of their business.

Thank you! Can you believe the jacket cost 10 times as much as the antique skirt? (The skirt was a bargain, and the jacket is the single most expensive piece of clothing I've ever bought.)

There's a furrier on Mt. Auburn St., at the corner where Belmont St. splits off, called Suphi Fur. Might be worth looking there if you can't find a furrier closer to you.

Ah, yes, but with the amount of compliments it has gotten you, I think it's earned its keep.

Part of that is thanks to you! You were the one who told me about Curly Girl, and it has changed my entire relationship with my hair -- and NOT having to spend the mental energy on "I hate my hair, it never does what I want, can I make it behave today even a little?" frees up SO MUCH MORE for the clothes.

Oh, absolutely. Sales clerks like it, boyfriends like it, bosses like it, receptionists like it, ROCK STARS like it, even my MOTHER likes it! And it makes me think of Adam Ant's hussar's jacket, only in black on black. It's so distinctive that it's far beyond trendy, and I intend to make it my signature piece for years and years. Absolutely, totally worth it.

It just croggles me sometimes that I did pay that much for one jacket.

Thank you for telling me that. It totally makes my week. After all the HOURS and HOURS and angst I spent over my teen-age years, fighting with my hair and having it be so...futile.

Very very glad to help. ;-D

And, likewise, I've been paying it forward, telling anyone else who wants to know how I get my curls to behave when theirs don't. It's so freeing!

Needs better picture of it, too, please?

Wearing jacket in this userpic, does that help?

It's the "Mischa jacket" from the limited edition Roberto Cavalli for H&M line that came out a couple of years ago. It retailed for $198. I paid $300 for it on eBay the day after the release, after calculating that if I'd taken a day off of work and gone into NYC to try to get it at the flagship store on release day, the missed wages, the gas and train fares, and the food I'd have had to get, not to mention the strong possibility that I STILL wouldn't have gotten it, would easily have cost as much as the $100 premium the reseller wanted.

Better. Much.

Yeah, never paid anything like that for a piece of clothing, but sounds like your rationale was good. Good on ya!
