up earlier than usual

Which is good, because I was able to get some laundry going before work. Which I needed to do, since I was pretty much out of T-shirts.

eternaleponine has a potluck thingy at work today and her team's assignment is Fruit. Normally, she just ignores work potlucks, and they're used to that, but I had a paper tote bag full of apples that people were not eating fast enough, and all the other requisite ingredients in the house to make apple crisp, so I set the kiddo to peeling and slicing, and went out and bought a pint of vanilla ice cream, and voila, one crisp for eternaleponine to take to work, and one for us to eat hot out of the oven! There's a teeny serving of apple crisp left for someone tonight.

Which of course made last night kind of carbohydrate-rich, since for dinner I just made penne with sauteed asparagus and grated parmesan. Oh, and a balsamic reduction drizzle, because eternaleponine fussed that there was No Flavor in my proposed dish, and I remembered that she'd been making approving comments about balsamic reductions whenever they showed up on Top Chef. Never mind that balsamic reduction is about one step removed from pancake syrup, when you get right down to it. If it gets me fewer complaints about dinner, I'm all for it.

Is that laundry done yet?

Kidlet approves of this meal? Good to know, and I guess I should learn to do a balsamic reduction. And that may make twice in one week she gets asparagus, as I think hollandaise is in her future this weekend.

Balsamic reduction = put balsamic vinegar in pot, cook until it's syrupy. Nothing more to it than that.

I do not think kidlet bothered with the balsamic reduction.
