The import aisle at Shaw's has half-liter glass bottles of Mexican Coca-Cola. MADE WITH REAL SUGAR, not high fructose corn syrup.

This could be dangerous.

I'm impressed.

(And am also thinking that it may be a Good Thing that there isn't a Shaw's near to me. ;-)

Beware! I've gotten some Mexican Coke here that *does* have HFCS in it. Read the labels!

I read it. It said sugar!

Yeah--it's a crapshoot, running about 3 good bottles to 1 gross one.

Actually they slap the white import label on some of the glass bottles to try and trick you, but generally it contains sugar. If it's a plastic bottle without and and/or on there, you might be right. But, you can tell by the foam.

Not without opening the bottle...unless you have a secret that you'll tell me? And the reason I'm sure about the HFCS is that I bought a bottle and noticed it tasted funny.

See the label that says corn syrup and/or sugar that turned out to be bullshit?

Perhaps I wasn't clear. I'll try again: I can tell the difference between corn syrup and real sugar, and I got a bottle of Mexican Coke that tasted like corn syrup.

edit: really, is there a way to tell corn syrup from sugar in the bottle? Because I'd be all over that!

This could be dangerous, but as I was reminded by having real Coca-Cola in Israel, sodas with real sugar make you feel full.

If you can override that, then yes, you're in danger.

"Don't fill up on your soda before the food comes!" my mom always said when we went to restaurants, when I was a kid. (Which was the only time we got soda, pretty much.)

I'd forgotten that.

I'm pretty good at stopping when I'm full. But it'll still be an occasional treat.

*sighs* I miss living right next door to a Mexican market. I make do with Jones Cola. (Also made without HFCS.)

You live close to Boston. This means you have the easy ability to get GuaranĂ¡ Antarctica, nom nom, also with sugar.

Sheye's on the other coast, and I can't handle guarana -- it wires me much more strongly than caffeine does, and I hate how it makes me feel.
