Yes, it HAS been that long since I properly exercised. No, we won't go into why. Let the record stand that I DO intend to get back into the habit.

Time: 31.3 minutes
Boots: my Double-H jump boots
Weights: 2-lb "wrist" weights, which I strapped to my upper arms because they wouldn't go tight enough for my wrists, and which kept slipping anyway so I took them off about 3 songs in

Cruelty The Crüxshadows
The Metro Bella Morte
Solitary Heaven Anders Manga
Adrenalin Bauhaus
Adrenochrome The Sisters Of Mercy
Ecce Gratum (Club Remix) Qntal
Love My Way The Psychedelic Furs

the playlist of ponies and love is how I coax myself to exercise at all, bella.

the Bauhaus track is off the NEW ALBUM "Go Away White" and it's one of the ones that remind you that there were glam rock roots in there and Peter Murphy loved Bowie maybe almost as much as we do. you should hear it.

as for the last track, I just indulged myself and spent some of my holiday iTunes gift cardage on some of their songs, because they were inexplicably MISSING from my iPod and this WOULD NOT DO. So now I have it.

I figured if I didn't tell you about it I'd be fired. Although it's not as good as Mantaray.

You have a LIFETIME EXEMPTION from firing, darling. -- Well, more seriously, I was kinda surprised at just how _very_ good Mantaray was -- I don't usually expect "comeback" or after-long-hiatus albums to be THAT good.

It's weird, the last year or two of "comeback" albums have been *awfully* good, when previous experience would suggest they were going to suck. They were noticing this on Making Light too.

Dare I hope that the upcoming one from dear Fat Bob will be good?

NEW BAUHAUS?! WTFJAHDHHISDAS!!

Kewlness!

And just the other day I almost downloaded Psych Furs, which are inexplicably missing from my library as well. Kinda like The Cure. It's just weird, this is.

See, this is why, even if you don't live near a Newbury Comics, you might want to get on their New Releases mailing list, just to learn about Upcoming Coolness. Want the link?

And I have lots and lots of Cure. Because, y'know, I actually BOUGHT those CDs. I just thought I had the essential P-Furs tracks somewhere in the clutter of '80s Hits stuff I'd loaded in here, and when [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine was conducting the All Request Hour in the car using PopTart to make an On-The-Go Playlist, because there's enough stuff on PopTart that she doesn't want to listen to to just set it on shuffle and go the way she does with Fool, HER iPod, I requested "The Ghost In You" because I wanted the original after hearing a Dresden Dolls cover, and it wasn't there, so I said "okay, do Pretty in Pink or Love My Way, at least one of them is on there," except they weren't either, so clearly I had to FIX that.

I love that sentence!

See, I didn't own Cure. My roomie had it and I loved it and then she moved to Germany and now I don't have it and waaaaahhh.

But see, I can't go buying everything in the universe. It's driving me crazy. I'll have no money!!

Money? Money is for wimps.

Ahem. Well. I do not necessarily approve of putting music up willy-nilly on the Net for anyone to grab without paying the artist, but Fat Bob is obviously not struggling financially, and if you would e-mail me your physical address, perhaps I could impose upon you to store offsite backups of my Cure collection.

I will be especially inclined to do this if you're going to check out the Ego Likeness show in Tulsa next month since you missed them last time. And they ARE a small band of the "buy our CDs so we can put gas in the van to get to the next venue" level, so deserve the direct support.

I HATE exercising. Hate hate hate it. And even spending money on a gym membership doesn't guilt me into doing it, I just waste the money.

So I decided to harness the power of What I Like Doing. I'll dance for hours at a club! Why not in a gym? Well, the music sucks and the clothes are ugly. So I had the answer to the music on my iTunes -- pull 30 minutes worth of songs I ENJOY that are reasonably uptempo (I need to figure out how to get iTunes to tell me beats per minute). Change it every day or two so I don't get bored and associate good songs only with Revolting Workout. And for clothes, I spent $40 on a black ice-skating dress (because I dance much better when I have a skirt) and I wear it with fishnets and club boots.

Voila, homegrown cardio!

I was not hinting, dearest. I don't approve of this either. But that would be rawkin awesome. Will email address.

On the show, gack. I would love to go. It's the night before my birthday. But dang it, my rents are here, leaving the next day. I don't think I can skip out. But I'll ask about it! Maybe they can watch kids and K and I can go celebrate my bday in style without paying for a sitter.

...Damn you for making sense! I really need to start dancing again. Guh, that concert was the first time I went out since I moved to Boston and lord knows I'm out of shape. I think I'm going to try half of your idea, if you don't mind. (because I do not work well in skirts and fishnets.)

The trick is to do what WORKS. If you dance better in jeans and a T-shirt, wear that!

Seriously, I picked up the term "Gothercise" from [livejournal.com profile] matociquala who's the SF author Elizabeth Bear but also an old SCA friend of mine and stuff, and the "exercise you WILL do is the best kind" from [livejournal.com profile] mama_hogswatch, and encouragement from [livejournal.com profile] auspeople who's been an aerobics instructor.

There is more overlap in our musical taste than I might have thought--you being more on the goth-industrial end and me being more old school. But five out of the seven artists (thought not those particular songs) are regulars in my rotation. Who'd a thunk it?

I'm not surprised -- and when it comes to listening for the music's sake, I prefer old school! But when I'm trying to work up a sweat, it helps to slant the playlist on the industrial side. At least as far as I can tolerate. Notice the distinct absence of "music" like Terrorfakt. :)

As I get back in the exercise habit, you'll get to see more of my music collection.

Qntal = so many different kinds of awesome! I LOVE medieval music... and Deine Lakaien. Could there be anything better than a mix of the two? I don't know if I've heard the club remix though.

You're right about Anders Manga, but I like both Bella Morte AND Qntal. It's Psychedelic Furs who aren't on my regular playlist.

Today's playlist is more what I had expected, though...

Today's playlist was mostly taken from samplers! The VNV track was a recommendation from [livejournal.com profile] mephistakitten because she uses it for running music.

It did help me work up a sweat. Yesterday was much more of a singing-along one, though.
