Casino Royale: micro-review
Nov. 25th, 2006 12:52 amWell, THERE's two and a half hours of my life I won't get back.
Seriously. Opening chase/action sequence? Could have ditched it entirely with no loss. A five minute briefing from M would have covered it.
The only real enjoyment for me was seeing bits from the novel come up in sequence. Like the creation of the drink called the Vesper. Which I'm going to have to try someday, just to see what it tastes like.
And I'm going to need screencaps or promo photos because I loved her eye makeup.
But other than that?
Bleah.
Also, Showcase Cinemas Buckland Hills really needs to turn the HEAT on in their theaters in November, please. Cold air blowing on my feet is no way to make me happy to be sitting still. Had the same problem for Nightmare Before Christmas 3-D. Next time, either I'm going to the Crown, or I'm sneaking in a BLANKET.
G'night.

Date: 2006-11-25 06:17 am (UTC)I think the only reason they added the Czech sequence at the start was so we'd know that he was the new Bond (it certainly took me a while to figure it out).

Date: 2006-11-25 02:59 pm (UTC)Oh, I know it... I've watched all of them, multiple times, and in fact I ought to bookmark the LSC page so I can clear some time in my schedule for the marathon when it comes up... I've been a fan since the first one I saw in the theaters, "Moonraker," when I was ten. And that wasn't even really a GOOD one.
I was going "yes, opening action sequence, but this is RIDICULOUS. And where's the parachute skis?"
And the Czech sequence could have been edited more tightly, too.

Date: 2006-11-25 03:03 pm (UTC)I probably wasn't going to be entirely happy with it no matter what. The book is my hands-down favorite of the novels, and truly, someday, I want to see it done as a faithful period piece, Dior dresses and prewar Bentley and all.
The Aston Martin was a nice bit of fan service though.
