I have triumphed over the Evil Comforter Fringes.

Back in December, when I moved into Libby's place, I got a very pretty comforter from Domestications. Burgundy velveteen, dark brocade patches, gold gimp braid... and tasseled fringe.

Which immediately started shedding fringes all over EVERYTHING.

Yeah. I'm not buying anything from Domestications again, that's for damn sure.

Today I had reached a point in my cleaning where I could reasonably strip my bed and wash the bedsheets. (This means I'd taken enough general clutter off the bed that I didn't have to excavate to take the sheets off.)

There was fringe all over the mattress pad when I did it. I vacuumed it off.

While I had the vacuum out, I vacuumed the window frames and the curtains, because it's SO much easier than dusting, and because I'd started the washer with the sheets before I thought to take down the lace liner curtains and throw them in the wash too. Phooey. Then, because I still had the Windex and towels out from yesterday, I cleaned the damn windows. I even put the screen back in the left-hand window. Of course, it's almost too late in the season to be USING the screens, and I'll have to lower the storms soon, but at least it's in the window and not in my closet.

Once I'd done all that, and taken the carpet I wasn't using down to the dining room disaster area, it was time to tackle the fringe.

I had originally thought I was just going to cut off the tassels. [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine pointed out that, by now, the fringe loops hanging from the gimp braid edging ALSO looked like crap, even if they weren't shedding, and did I want to borrow a seam ripper?

No, I didn't want to borrow one, I knew exactly where my own was.

I only had to start it with the seam ripper. Then it tore off with remarkable ease.

I even picked off all the little threads left after I did it.

For a few minutes, I considered buying some new edging and applying it, but I decided that it would be a waste of energy, since what I really want is a crazy quilt. I've wanted one since I was about ten. Since I'm likely to be using that bed for quite some time, I think it may be time soon to START on my crazy quilt. I've got plenty of fabric scraps. And a book on them. And I know how to feather stitch.

Apart from putting the clean sheets back on the bed, I think I may be done with chores for the day.

I'll get back to you after I've dyed the purple streaks in my hair.
