[livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine and I are Macho Women, even if we lack the guns.

We got her Huge Freakin' Desk out of the front hall, up the stairs, and into her room, without putting holes in the plaster or mashing our feet or otherwise creating too much mayhem. And we only had to do very minor back-up-change-the-angle things.

And my upstairs hall is CLEAN now because we had to do this.

We so rock.

Just for a sense of perspective, how does the size of this desk compare to that monster desk of [livejournal.com profile] shadowflyer's?

Bravi!!!

It's maybe a little narrower, front to back. Side to side, it's similar. It's a modern open construction thing, not two fully drawered stacks with a big top over them, but it extends further upwards because of shelves.

It probably doesn't weigh QUITE as much as [livejournal.com profile] shadowflyer's antique, but it's pretty damn big!

well hello. enjoy ruffling through my personal and non personal thoughts. i'm a little disappointed because i searched your journal for alkaline trio related comments. i guess you just aren't as crazy as me, which is good i guess, because i know waaaaaaaaay too many crazy people on here. ^_^

i saw Alk3 live on April 23, 2006. And i haven't stopped listening to them since. Seriously. I am on a quest to collect all their songs (currently missing about 15..) and i have only listened to maybe 2 other CDs that entire time. I'm still on my concert high, and i'm falling out of the loop musically because i haven't turned the radio on either. ^_^

Other than that, Matt Skiba, the lead singer is the hottest fucking thing i've ever seen in my life, and i currently have the biggest celebrity crush on him. It didn't occur until after i saw him live.. so yeah. His voice is amazing and he is a lyrical god.

Other than that, i skateboard, play hockey (goalie), and play video games. I'm pretty much a tomboy, but i suck at most sports.

How about you?

Yeah, I was so wiped after I saw them on 4/19 that I didn't post a review. you can go read [livejournal.com profile] ihadtimetokill's entry from the day after if you want a review of the show, because that was where I met her, and was smooshed up against her the entire time (wow were we smooshed).

That was the third time I'd seen them live, & the first time I'd really enjoyed it -- at the Bamboozle last May, and with My Chemical Romance last October, I really wanted to throttle their sound engineers, or just go take over the damned board. Hi, I'd like to hear the VOCALS in the mix, please!

I don't get it about Matt Skiba being hot, though. It's not that I don't understand performer-crushes. My first big one was David Bowie, and it's persisted from the Serious Moonlight era to this day... and Rogue from the Cruxshadows and Billie Joe Armstrong have the same effect on me, but not Matt Skiba. I love the music, but Derek's cuter, and I don't want to pounce on any of them. I'll grant you lyrical god, though!

I'd never heard of Alkaline Trio before 2004, when [livejournal.com profile] chaos_rose was promoting the Rock Against Bush CD. Because I am TWICE YOUR AGE, I said "ooh, unreleased songs by Ministry and Jello Biafra, that's worth $6, and a worthy cause besides," but when I got the disc, the song that jumped out at me was "Warbrain." Then I got a new co-worker, and we were going through our music collections to see what we liked of each other's stuff, and she had more Alkaline Trio, and I said "hey, put THAT on." I did not hear a single song I disliked, and then later she told me about the Bamboozle, and there you have it, I was a fan.

You need to turn on the radio. Even my local cock-rock station (this market doesn't HAVE an alternative station) is playing new AFI and 30 Seconds to Mars, which, along with the old Green Day songs they keep in their rotation, are the musical bright spots of my day when I leave the radio on instead of playing CDs at work.

Work? I'm a baker. I never finished college, but I did go to culinary school, and I really enjoy being a baker. Especially now that I don't have a CRAZY boss.

I don't skateboard (although I got one for my daughter), but I'm trying to teach myself to surf -- which is the most sports-like thing I've done voluntarily, ever. I'm more of a reader, a sometime writer (fanfic and some semi-original stuff), and a costumer. Recently divorced, and adjusting to my new life.

For the rest of it, stick around this journal.

Aha.. you see, i'm not one to have stupid childish far-fetched crushes on people i know i can never have.. although how this happened has eluded me.

I first heard Alkaline Trio during my junior year, which i belive was 3 years ago. I had a friend in my art class wose music collection was amazing. She offered to burn me any 4 CDs i wanted, and so i told hger to give me her faves.

One of those CDs was "Good Mourning". The first time i ever heard it, i was in Walmart with my mom. I put it in my CD player, and within the first few sentences of "This Could Be Love", was laughing so hard that i had to sit down. I put the song on repeat and learned the whole song before leaving the store. I listened to the rest of it while putting up Christmas lights and every single song was memorable. The lyrics were amazing, there was the perfect blend of dark and rock, and his voice was beautiful. I fell asleep so many times to "Blue In The Face", but i never really even knew their names.

I bought Crimson with my birthday money because i was excited that they had a new CD. They kind of became my favorite band, although i never really had a favorite until after the concert... They were just up there in my list of great songs.

I read online that they were going on tour, and decided that was the only thing i wanted for my birthday. This was my 5th concert ever, but soon after my second one i became a concert junkie. I love the high you get from crowdsurfing and moshing. I love the volume and the passion. It's just altogether amazing, even if the bands suck. I ecided seeing a band i liked would be a good idea. I bought tickets the day before. I bought a shirt as i was walking in the doors.

They played every song from "Goddamnit" and although that CD wasn't in my collection at the time, i picked up some of the choruses. "Armegeddon" was insane. I couldn't remember where i had heard it before. I was in the second row, smashed into nasty sweaty people, but i was too amused to be irritated. I remember laughing really hard at just about everything Skiba did. Even his strange thing where he smiles really creepy and looks up at an odd angle.. I was on the biggest rush of my life.

After i couldn't stop thinking about the concert and doodling it on everything. (Including the back of the Final Exam i got a 60% on the next morning) i realized i needed to buy all of their CDs. And so i did.

Then i realized that i had various songs of their on my Atticus CD, Tony Hawk game, Warped Tour Comp, and everywhere else. I have liked them all along, i only didn't know it was them. "Jaked On Green Beers" was one of my favorite songs on Atticus.

And somehow i fell in love with Skiba. hahaha. not quite sure how it happened, but i don't consider it a truly stupid celebrity crush, because i didn't really like him until i saw him in person. I think that counts for something in my moral standards.. ;)

I mailed my check to the Blood Pact today in hopes that i can meet the band. Boy did i feel stupid telling the bank lady who to make it out to. She looked at me like i was mailing the check to Satan, and so i donated a dollar to whatever charity they had going on at the moment to redeem myself.

I work at Kmart, and have for a little over a year now. I do everything there iss to do at that store. I can run every position and i claim that if you cloned me, i could run the mopst efficient Kmart ever by myselves.

And yeah, i re read everything i wrote up there and it's waaaaaay choppy and i sounded like an idiot talking about Skiba, but i believe i was drunk on his voice at the moment.

I spent a lot of time Googleing and YouTubeing Alkaline Trio yesterday because i am hoping to catch wind of a new CD.. Last time i did that, i found out about Heavens accidentally before half the Blood Pact knew, and i like to be on top of things.

For listening to my rambling on, i feel you should be rewarded with Alk3's version of Tainted Love. Not many people have this gem. I'd say it's about *** out of *****. It's not the greatest cover of that song.. and it's not their greatest work... but it is better than half the shit out there.

Heh, where he smiles really creepy and looks up at an odd angle? That'd be right as he was introducing "Clavicle," right? :)

I joined the Blood Pact a few weeks before the show, because I saw on the regular band website that they were letting Blood Pact members pick the songs for the second set. Most people were requesting "Warbrain" and stuff off "Crimson" and "Good Mourning" and "From Here To Infirmary" -- I was the weird one, and requested every cover I knew that they'd done. "The Metro" (a song I loved in its original, back in 1982, and their cover charmed me silly), "Tainted Love," "Bye Bye Love," "Halloween," "Wash Away," "Lucretia My Reflection" -- also Matt's solo song "Demons Away" from the Protect comp. When I made the post, I didn't know that they'd also done "Over At The Frankenstein Place" for the Rocky Horror Punk Rock Show album. I mentioned this at the meet & greet -- there were about four people there, including me -- and they seemed pleased that I'd liked it, but they didn't PLAY any of the covers. They DID sign the whole huge stack of compilations and samplers that all had one. damned. track. of theirs apiece on it that I brought with me, like an utter dork -- really they were very sweet and gracious, and it was worth the membership dues just to get in there. Especially since it also got me right up near the stage.

As for that version of "Tainted Love" -- I'm the one that sent it to you, silly! If you want to send me "Jaked On Green Beers," though, I'll happily take it... that's one I DON'T think I have.

I know I listened to "Patent Pending" but I don't think I downloaded it. And I didn't find "Dead End Girl." Sure!

And I think I've got a different version of "Jaked On Green Beers" on the three discs of downloads that Shauna burned for me, back in 2004... that was one of the ones whose title I didn't know, so I haven't tagged it!

NICE version you sent me, though. Thanks!

Kelly CLARKSON? *dies* They were using "Bloodied Up" for the soundcheck where I saw them.

You have just reminded me of something I need to post about. I was trying to compose an entry in my head that was NOT identical to [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine's about the fun day we had yesterday.
