Mundane trivia, or how I spent my morning
Jan. 6th, 2006 01:58 pmThe morning did not start out well. I had set up Libby's fancy-schmancy grind-and-brew coffeemaker, on the timer even, but the ground beans did not drop into the filter basket for some reason, and so no coffee. Libby got by on Diet Coke, which was less than ideal.
Then, of course, it was sleeting. I warmed up her car for her and scraped it off, and scraped off mine too, and went to wait for
melovechocolate's school bus with her. In the sleet. With sleet dripping off my Big Damn Hero Hat and messing up the screen of my Visor, where I was trying to work on a to-do list.
The bus didn't come. I have the Laidlaw dispatcher programmed into my cell phone now, but when I called from outside, I got nasty static, so I had to go back in the house to call them and see where the heck the bus was. I told
melovechocolate to keep waiting out there, just in case the bus showed up while I was calling. It was sleeting, but she did have her coat and mittens and the earwarmer band she knitted herself.
The dispatcher said their original driver had called out sick, and the replacement driver had just left, so give it ANOTHER 15-20 minutes. Yeah, right. I gave it 10 to 15, anyway, and had to scrape the ice off my windshield AGAIN, and drove the kiddo to school. Through morning rush hour on Route 2 to downtown, and then down Main St. At least it gave me time to listen to NPR.
So while I was already out and moving, I went to the DMV and changed my address, went to the hardware store and got keys copied, and went to the post office and picked up the mail that they were holding because Libby's box had gotten full. I got my new VistaPrint cards, and 2 unemployment checks, and the Patti Smith CD from
hangingfire, and the Shub-Niggurath from
witchchild. Yay!
Tried to tidy up some around here, and played a certain amount of phone tag with Libby's former co-worker Carolyn, who was selling us the bunk bed. Got a shower. Finally picked up the bunk bed frame (wow, Carolyn likes to talk!) and deposited my first 2 unemployment checks at the bank. Yay again!
Any more productivity besides laundry will have to wait until
dj_manwhore comes over here because there are things that are just too damned heavy for me to move either alone or with the help of a 110-lb 15-year-old.
Also I promised the girls that when the bed is set up I will take them out shopping for sheets. They are all OVER the idea of Nightmare Before Christmas sheets.
I think I know what's for dinner. I have to wipe out the oven since I ran the self-clean last night, though.
Now I've got to go meet Devin's bus. At least it's not sleeting any more.

Date: 2006-01-06 02:08 pm (UTC)Oddly, I've never really wanted character/movie sheets. I think it's because I don't really look at the bed -- I just sleep in it, and then the lights are out.
Can you drop me a line to confirm what's up with Arisia -- are you a) in our room, b) in the Goddess masquerade?
Thanks!
