A good news, bad news sort of day

The good news is I got hired, for a new job with excellent hours and benefits I can sign up for right away.

The bad news is that half the ceiling of the second floor bathroom just collapsed, not half an hour after we first noticed a leak and shut off the water to the third floor toilet.

Almost on shadowflyer's head.

Guess my first paycheck (and maybe more) is going to go to a plumber.

Three liveable ones, and some useless ventilation space under the roof (not a good storage attic, there's a box room on the third floor that IS a good storage attic).

House was built in 1897, clearly with the expectation of resident servants (probably a cook and a maid-of-all-work, or else a housekeeper who was indulged with two rooms, but I find that unlikely). I could use a resident servant now, let me tell you.

Oy vey. Sometimes I think second floor plumbing is more bother than it's worth.

Hope it doesn't cost too much (in either dinero or aggravation) to get fixed.

We may have to pay the plumber ourselves, but I think/hope the homeowners' insurance will pay to get the ceiling redone in the bathroom. (The remodeling work that never got completed, however, is probably still our problem.)

Actually insurance may cover both, less whatever your deductible is.
