Maybe it's just that I'm Officially Old and retro nights are my foolproof home. But I've been to crappy retro nights before.

DJ Chris Ewen, at Heroes, was spinning as if he was reading my mind.

Yes, early in the evening, I handed him a note that said "Visage, Clan of Xymox, OMD, you get the idea. &hearts" And he smiled, and, very shortly after, he played "Enola Gay," which packed the floor pretty well considering how early it was.

But. Later. He played a set that went like this:

Yaz - Situation
Sisters of Mercy - Lucretia My Reflection
Echo & the Bunnymen - Lips Like Sugar
Psychedelic Furs - Pretty In Pink
Chameleons - Swamp Thing
Simple Minds - Don't You Forget About Me
New Order - Faith

This was a happy Rikibeth.

And then there was late-night sushi, and a chance to sleep in with air conditioning. I didn't think I'd be able to stay awake and alert through fireworks time, so I came home.

Happy 4th, everyone! And enjoy your extra day off!

Awesome. Some time, you need to come here, and we will go dancing. Or, I will come there, and there will be dancing. :)

This was Boston-area, so if you plan a visit, give me a heads-up! He's generally spinning SOMEWHERE in Boston at least once a week.

HE PLAYED SWAMP THING AND I DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO REQUEST IT. I cannot tell you how much I love that song!

Are you on my Facebook? Did you see the pic I posted of what I wore? I refuse to admit I'm old, just EXPERIENCED.

Innnnnteresting. Chelle and I have, in fact, been discussing the possibility of making a Boston visit sometime in the next several months. She loves the place, and it's one of the few northern US big cities I've not been to. Will definitely let you know if/when it happens. :)

I've heard him spin before. When he did a more purely-Goth night back in May, it was ALSO good, and just for the hell of it near the end of the night he threw in "Bad Romance" and "Feel Good, Inc." and the crowd just ate it up. He's GOOD.

Oh, cute outfit! You have an impressive amount of flair on that jacket :)

Flair hell, that's my concert history in 1" band buttons. With a few accent pieces like the Disney trading pins of Jack and Sally. I'm VERY proud of that jacket.

He became my favorite DJ.
Thank you once again for the opportunity.

NICE.

Going out dancing is one of the things I miss about living in a city. Seeing Juno Reactor in a small club (and subsequently DANCING MY FACE OFF on the side stage) is one of my all-time favorite music-related memories.

As always, it was a joy.

I don't have the icon this makes me want to use. I need to grab it from one of my friends -- because what I want? Is the xkcd panel with the apartment door opening to show the whole apartment turned into a ball pit, and the stick figure looking on with a &hearts. We go dancing because we're the grownups now, and we get to decide what that means!

Heh, I just said flair to get a rise out of you!

:-P! There are some non-concert buttons mixed in there -- I've got one of Mr. Owl from the Tootsie Pop commercial. Sadly, I've mislaid my vintage "no nukes" "no cows" pair. I think Northern Sun still carries them, though.

I need Jedi wings, dammit.

I'd have fallen in lust, if not outright love, with that set.

Oh, I wish I'd known you were going! I'd been pondering it, but none of my usual dance buddies were going to the there. :(

Now that I'm enjoying going out and stuff again, I'm sad I can't go dancing with you a time or two. It always sounds like you have such a good time!

It was a very last-minute plan! Still, I wish you'd been there -- it was a truly EPIC night of synthpop/postpunk awesomeness.
