Why, yes, I am Posty McPostalot today.

This is because I had to force myself to sort through all the papers on my desk, because I had to find the restoration notice for my driver's license, so I can bring it into court tomorrow and have them drop the ticket the way they said they would. And, well... my desk looks like the Perfesser's desk in "Shoe." It's a beautiful big oak rolltop DESIGNED as a computer desk, and I'd kind of stuffed all the dead space behind my flat-screen monitor with... papers. And there's a small bookshelf and a pile of boxes on the top surface above the rolltop. And I had papers I'd been dealing with recently on the left-hand return. And the pile on top of the printer...

Well, the dead space behind the monitor is all stuffed with papers again, but now they're sorted and rubberbanded into useful piles. I think I need to get some more manila folders before I actually put them away in the filing drawer.

And I found the restoration notice. Which was the point of the exercise.

I think this makes me very, very virtuous. It also made me a little panicky. But that's okay, because I can have tea. The dishes are done, the cat box is clean, the garbage is out, and I'm going to put the recycling out later to minimize the hours it gets rained on.

In the process, I joggled something loose on my computer and I couldn't get it reconnected for about an hour. THAT was a pretty panicky thing, too. But the Brave Little Toaster is back online now, and all is well with the world.

I am declaring tonight's dinner Eat Leftovers Or I'll Scramble You Some Eggs, But I'm Not Cooking. Because we have a bunch of leftovers. Well, I might cook the collard greens for myself because they GO with one of the sorts of leftovers, but I'm not making a new meal. I think this ought to be okay, because we also have lemon icebox pie. Mmm, pie.

Manila envelopes for sorting things are made of win. Especially if there are receipts or other small pieces of paper involved. After taxes are done, the whole pile of that year's documentation goes into its own manila envelope before getting stored away.

The other things that I use are:
Black binder clips.
Clip magnets. (If it's that important/time sensitive, it goes on the fridge, where I can't put anything on top of it. The clip makes sure I can't put anything on top, and the finite size of the fridge means it can't get too lost.)
Accordion files.
A Brother P-Touch labeling machine.

Staples has plastic versions of the accordion files, and they also have plastic envelopes, 9x12, where the flap is closed with a string. Great for things that are constantly accessed. All my school stuff goes in those.

I regularly announce that we have plenty of leftovers and everyone's on their own. The only restrictions i put are that if 2 people want the same leftovers they have to split them and fill out the rest of their dinner with other stuff, no calling Dibs

I wound up doing scrambled eggs and toast for B (kid is at her dad's). I stuck a sweet potato in the oven for myself and cooked the collards I had around, but the leftover beans and rice I was going to have with them had gone off, so I poached an egg in the microwave and put it over the greens and called it done.

And there's pie.

Collard greens with caramelized onion and feta cheese and a poached egg overtop made a really satisfying reward.

It almost doesn't matter what's for dinner. If there's pie for dessert, all is well with the world.

Yeah, if leftovers don't get used up they go bad, and then what's the point? We'd collected a good set over the last week or so, and I've been systematically eating my way thru them yesterday and today.

Incidentally, Near East brand Mediterranean Curry couscous is absolutely fabulous if you like that sort of thing. And cheap.

I'm probably the only one in the house who'd eat it, unfortunately.
