Setting up any new computer involves vehement language. It's a rule.
As for Vista... my new desktop has it. And after six weeks of using it, I'm thinking about getting a new laptop so I can have Vista on it as well. It's a total pain in the ass migrating stuff (I moved in a couple hard drives and a wireless card from the old to the new), but I would think in a laptop where there's no migrating anything other than docs and pics, well.
eternaleponine isn't my daughter, she's my housemate. This is a Dell with XP -- her own choice. My daughter has a secondhand laptop picked up from another Susboid family, and it's also running XP. It was cheaper than buying Word for her to use on MY Mac laptop.
I borrowed a friend's Toshiba for a few days, and the thing that struck me the most was.. OMG a volume knob! Probably the most obviously useful thing I've ever seen on any laptop.

*shrug* Your mileage may vary, of course.
