Colitis. They don't know why exactly. They say they often don't.

They're giving him Flagyl, and trying him on Science Diet I/D, and a stool softener.

No masses. They'll know more when the bloodwork comes back tomorrow, but so far, nothing REALLY scary going on.

Now I get to look forward to the joys of pilling a cat. But NO CANCER.

*phew*

That's wonderful news -- I'm so glad to hear it!!

Sorry, I just now saw this, so I wasn't able to post a response earlier -- poor little guy, it's good news that it's not more serious, though.

**huge hugs**

Let's see, stress can cause a whole bunch of things. Did you move recently?

Similarly: any recent major change of diet? Like switching from wet to dry, or something like that?

We had to switch to a whoop-dee-zings low ash food once, when Haiku got a urinary-tract blockage, so I truly feel for you.

*whew* indeed. Pilling a cat is no fun, but not so bad compared to the alternatives. Yay, kitty!

He hid for about three days when we moved.

We kept him on the same food. And we got him a super=duper recirculating kitty fountain water dish, as he would no longer have his beloved leaky tub faucet.

But yeah, new house, after most of his life in the same place, and the stairs are a little steeper, and he lost his favorite windowsills.

Clearly I need to get one of those padded kitty shelves so he can have his smell-o-vision back.

Even if he scrapes his whiskers on the screens.

Thing has IBS, and I've been keeping it under control with one big change - no clumping litter. Other stuff to try is a switch to a no-grain wet and dry food, and a dose of petromalt every other day.

*HUGS!* No cancer!

Mm, he's a big pear-shaped boy, dinky little windowsills won't cut it. Khaavren's going to be a trick to pill - if you wrap it in peoplefood he'll just scratch his face on it....

But, so glad for no Major League Kitty Trauma. Khaavren's a good boy, and [livejournal.com profile] melovechocolate doesn't need the grief.

He's not as fat as he was. And I figure I'll towel-wrap him and pill him with a treat chaser.

But yes. If all it takes is antibiotics and better food... HOORAY.

Get one of those pill-poppers from the vet and cover the pill in squeezy cheese. The Bacon-Cheddar flavor seems to work best.

Thanks for the tip! bear in mind that this is a cat who, when you offer him shrimp or other normally cat-tempting tidbits, doesn't even TRY to eat them, he just rubs his face against it. Hence [livejournal.com profile] shadowflyer's comment.

But squeezy cheese is cheap. I'll give it a try.

The squeezy cheese acts as a lubricant so it goes down easier and coats it to keep the bitter powder from touching his tongue, causing a drool-fest. But, yeah, chasing it with a treat he actually likes wouldn't hurt either.

Poor boo. My kitty boy had colitis a couple of months ago. It's no fun, but pretty easy to treat. He should be better within a week.

Poor Khaavren having to be pilled, and poor you having to do it, but YAY NO CANCER!

Our vet is now so used to the faces I pull when she suggests pills for Kosh that if there can possibly be an injection she gets it. The unfair thing is that Kosh will let the vet pill her, since going to the vets traumatises her into a state of more or less baleful compliance (as opposed to the last vets, where it took the vet and two vet nurses to get her annual injections done) whereas when I try it she turns into an angry rubber band with claws.

an angry rubber band with claws

Wow. That is the first time I have ever seen anyone accurately describe a cat's reaction to what it doesn't like. That is it EXACTLY. Thank you. :)

From: [identity profile] ankaret.livejournal.com
*grin* I'm thinking you've probably seen this reaction first-hand on several occasions, yes? :)

My Koshka is five kilos of alternately being terrified of everything and ruling the household.

I have a small five pounder (so about half the size of your 5 kilo one) who has an AMAZING skill at becoming a completely uncontainable squirmy work if I try to do anything that requires holding her, like clipping her claws. And your description is exactly what she does. The other two, both boys and bulkier, are much easier to hold.

yay! as long as your kitty keeps eating and pooping, he'll be fine. the towel trick does wonders, and if you cover the pill in wet cat food sometimes you can trick them that way too. if you have a fatty chub cat like i did. can't resist eating it. :p

Oooh, she's not gonna like that you told me that!

Still, if I'm the one to towel-wrap him and she's the one to stuff the squeezy-cheez-coated thing down his throat, he'll hate ME more.

And they just trimmed his claws for me at the vet as part of the service, so it could be worse.

He gets to come home today! YAY KITTY!
