I got word from my mechanic about the engine replacement on Candy-O, my dear little Cavalier convertible.

I was expecting $2K.

Nope.

$4K.

That falls into the category of NOT WORTH IT.

But I really, really want another convertible. Boring cars SUCK.

There's not much in my price range (say $5K). And a lot of what there is is VW Cabrios, which are little BLOBS and I do not like them, even if they are convertibles.

I am trying to convince myself that it is NOT sensible to buy a 1985 Volvo 240 wagon for $1500 (only 103K miles, low for a Volvo) and then indulge in a 1978 Triumph Spitfire for $1800.

It's cheaper than repairing Candy-O...

[livejournal.com profile] shadowflyer has a lead on a red Jeep Wrangler for $2200. A Jeep Wrangler would not suck.

Anybody have leads on other cars that would not suck? Major bonus points for a convertible that's not a two-seater. Sunroof would be just BARELY acceptable in place of a convertible. "Cute" and "sporty" are desirable. Red is also dear to my heart. If "cute" and "sporty" are not possible, then at least interesting, like a Volvo wagon or something.

[livejournal.com profile] pixel, have you sold the Subaru yet, and are you planning to? I'd drive THAT...

Sorry to hear. Best of luck with the situation.

Volvo 240 wagons are excellent, and that _is_ quite low mileage. I'd probably still have mine if it weren't for its having been hit by lightning and the electrical system buggered beyond repair.
