Adventures in haircolor

Just went down to Sally Beauty Supply with andrianna.

I wanted Manic Panic Vampire Red, or so I thought. In any case that was the color I was going for.

andrianna said that she'd tried other brands that worked better, and that since I was putting it over black, I ought to get the one with the least metallic stuff in it, because it'd take better.

So, with her to guide me, what I've got is:

A bottle of 40-volume developer (which is what I used, years ago, to go from natural brown to strawberry blonde)
A packet of Kaleidocolors Blue lightener
A tube of Jerome Russell Punky Professional Vermilion Red
A packet of Ion conditioner
and a pair of gloves for her to use.

Tomorrow afternoon, the streaks.

Thank you! I probably should have gotten this out of my system when I was a teenager, or so eternaleponine tells me, but I didn't, so I am damned well doing it NOW.

At least my daughter is not yet old enough to be embarrassed by me doing this. :)

Although the one time we put some in shadowflyer's very blond hair, it hung around for WEEKS.

But I trust andrianna pretty well.

And, in another question, is it Sue hair if, like Tetsuko, everyone on your planet has hair like that?

If I'm lucky it'll have a shot-taffeta effect. Wouldn't that be fun?

I don't know. I know I used to hang out with a natural brunette that dyed her hair blue with manic panic and it started coming out the next day. Brown hair is just harder to dye I guess.

C'mon -- you're asking this of the person who still likes to play dress-up and make-believe! Seriously, I'd just be careful not to overdo it, as too much futzing with hair color can lead to damage. I don't think you want your hair breaking.

I think as long as you don't ACT like a Sue, it's okay. You're doing it for fun, not to be Sooper Speshul.

Hence the conditioner packet. andrianna's got training. She picked the stuff for me. And she's got her hair multi-toned in a flame effect, bleach-yellow/orange/red, and has kept it in decent shape, so I'm optimistic.

Dress-up and make-believe, oh yes.
