Five more hours...
Aug. 20th, 2003 03:06 pmbefore I can let myself go to sleep.
Last night, I couldn't sleep. I tried everything. I had a book to read. I had the sunrise clock set for a 90-minute sunset. I had had a shower so I was clean and comfy. I had written down all my tasks on a to-do list so they wouldn't chase around my head all night. I had my Ambient Music for Sleep CD. I hadn't loaded up on caffeine.
From 11:30 PM to 1:30 AM, sleep forsook me.
Now, I knew I had to be in at work at 5:30 AM. And I also knew that if I got any less than four hours sleep, I would be groggier and crankier than if I hadn't slept at all.
Say, does that mean I'd be a Purim noisemaker? After all, to get a grogger to make noise, you crank it...
But anyway, since I knew that about my sleep cycles, I figured it was time to stop trying to sleep, and just get up.
So I did. I came downstairs, read my email, chatted with a few people in other time zones who were still awake, wrote a game post for HOC, and poked around blogs until Making Light sent me over to Bridezilla, where I whiled away the rest of the time until i could reasonably get dressed and head to the cafe.
Went to work, made the usual muffins, scones, sticky buns, rolls, and tea bread, and learned the store's versions of sour cream coffee cake, lemon bars, and apple crisp besides. Also learned where to park to avoid the lot fee,
Brought my knife sharpener from home, so now instead of one useable knife and four or five dull ones, they're all tolerably sharp.
If I go to sleep NOW, I will wake up around 8 or 9 PM, and won't get back to sleep.
So, five more hours...
Maybe then I'll be adjusted to my new schedule!
