Or, Five Things Make A Post.

1. If I do not make a linear to-do list, the inside of my head feels like an animated tag cloud. It's really hard to focus on an animated tag cloud. Did you know that? So far, my organizational scheme of Phone Calls, Car Errands, Household Chores, Internet Tasks, and Personal Trivia seems to be holding up.

2. MCR's new album is full of rocking goodness. I can only think the reason that the local "alternative" station isn't playing the hell out of it is that it's so much better than every other damn thing they're playing right now that everyone would REALIZE just how much the current crop of "alternative" hits SUCKS. You want this album. You should listen to this album. Really.

3. The Thanksgiving menu is planned! We're having potato-leek soup, roasted winter vegetables, stuffing, vegetarian gravy, cranberry-sauce-inna-can, and two kinds of pie (pumpkin and rum chiffon). Because it is not Thanksgiving without two kinds of pie.

4. I keep breaking dishes. Today two of the little plates slid off the stack and went smash on the kitchen tile. I think, given the large cracks in some of the dinner plates and the fact that all the bowls from the set are chipped, I ought to hunt down a new cheapo set of dishes. I hope I can find another set that's white with blue rims.

5. With [livejournal.com profile] eternaleponine's car out of commission, I am really beginning to understand the Mom's Taxi Service complaint. Between driving her to and from work, her tai chi class from 7-8, and the kid's community theater rehearsal that runs 6-8:30, I am spending a lot of time in the car. This is delaying both Pantsless O'Clock and Booze O'Clock. When everyone is home, ALL PANTS ARE OFF.

That's five things. So that's a post.

4. Does this set meet your specifications? I have it in black, and it's perfectly nice if not spectacular. Also, it's Corelle, so it's more drop-tolerant than a lot of other brands.

Oh hey, this one's on sale.

It's not bad-looking. From what I remember about the Corelle that my parents had, it was more drop-tolerant, but it also made much more vicious shrapnel when it DID break. And, of course, we don't need the 16-ounce cooler glasses at ALL, because we have a large collection of Newbury Comics pint glasses. But I see it does open stock, which might work too.

Ooh, coffee mugs instead of cooler glasses. Not that we really need those either, but... yeah, that might do.

Unneeded coffee mugs can be packaged with cocoa mix, little packets of cinnamon and cayenne, and a few of those small candy canes as holiday gifts. And since they'd be blue, they would easily adapt to a winter or Hanukkah theme. ;)

Well, in my family, we ALL have way more mugs than we need, but perhaps B would like to give cocoa mug gift packs to her co-workers, & perhaps the kid has teachers she wants to give presents to. Anyway, I am in favor of getting one set of this for now and integrating it into the remains of our current set, ditching the worst of the cracked and chipped pieces.

ALL PANTS ARE OFF! I feel inspired to take off my pants and demand that Dave make me a really boozy chocolate mousse as soon as he gets home.

Also, I lust for your rum chiffon pie and your potato leek soup. Yums.

Teachers get a lot of mugs, but the cocoa mix thing is aces for coworkers, because they can go over to the cooler and make some right there and then. And every woman I know is always too cold in the office.

Homemade is really cheap to make, and tastes better than packets. This is the recipe I use (http://kadath.livejournal.com/805455.html).

The potato leek soup is straight out of Julia Child (I do the neatly-diced "bonne femme" option because my household prefers chunks to puree) and the rum chiffon pie was a tradition from my paternal grandmother, but is easily effectively duplicated by following the recipe for "black bottom pie" in Joy of Cooking. I'm hoping that THIS year I can get it to gel properly with agar powder. Agar FLAKES are made of fail in this application.

#2: They're certainly playing the heck out of the single on Chicago's alt station.

Is the trip to the Jersey side of the family off, or is that the menu you're coordinating with your mother?

I am having an animated tag cloud head kind of day. Maybe I should make a list. If I can remember to focus long enough to write one...
