Succumbing to temptation

and starting work on a Snape fic, given some encouragement from kind souls like [livejournal.com profile] bethbethbeth and [livejournal.com profile] neotoma, who didn't dismiss a newbie from already long and involved discussions.

408 words so far, and a useful discussion with Amber buddy [livejournal.com profile] tryslora about how Snape differs from Julian, so I can avoid character bleedover.

Probably more tomorrow, but I need time to mull over how the new insights affect the scene.

Good to know I'm not the only Amber person who also does Potter fic. :) (I'll even admit that mine tends towards slash...) Of course, my Potter baby of choice is one of the only mentioned's, Evan Rosier. Points to you if you know who he is. :)

A Death Eater, reportedly a friend of Snape's, killed before Snape turned double agent?

Not that I remember from the books (hey, I had to finish OotP in two days, so as not to keep the eight year old waiting), but I've seen the name mentioned in discussions.

Good on you!

It doesn't say if he was killed before Snape turned double agent, but he was killed right around the fall of Voldemort, dying rather than being taken, tried, and imprisoned. He's the one who took the chunk out of Mad Eye Moody's nose. :)

And in my version, he's a bookish little geek who gets fed up with the idiocy of others, and joins the Death Eaters as a stepping stone to changing all of the wizarding world... but doesn't quite make it that far... what with the dying thing. :)

Is this the fic you were discussing with me earlier? Or something else?

Snape = Julian? It's been a while, but I don't remember Julian being quite so gleefully nasty.

It's... an outgrowth. Or maybe a warmup. I need to play around in the universe a little more before I figure out how to either translate a character or write an effective crossover.

And, yes, you've hit on the difference: Snape is more gleefully nasty. Julian can be VERY snide, but he tends to go for understatement.

But can't you just hear Alan Rickman saying "I enjoy slaughtering beasts, and I think of my relatives constantly" in that VOICE of his?
