Smithereens REPRESENT.

Okay. Based on a conversation with [livejournal.com profile] the_red_shoes, I have determined that I need a filter for People Who Love The Smithereens.

[livejournal.com profile] suburbfabulous, I already know to put you on it.

I have no idea what I'm going to use it for, although yousendit links for other music I love comes to mind.

Comment if you want to be added.

I love them...but why a filter? People should know all about them...don't hide it!

Love,

Mostly whimsy. I do not hide my love of them at all, but having a tagged grouping of people who ALSO love them would just be a fun exercise for me.

Am mailing you my Smiths/Smithereens/Suzanne Vega Pandora station, too.

Spoken like a true music geek. You are loved. :)

Yours in Beauty And Sadness,
Johnny

Hi there. The Smithereens fucking rock, don't they? Nice to meet you.

[identity profile] hey-disco-joe.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 02:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh yes they do. I was a wee one of 13 when I discovered that college rock wasn't just for the college kids. 1986 was a great year for jangly guitar pop, and along with the Jersey boys' Especially For You LP, we had:

REM/Life's Rich Pageant
Let's Active/Big Plans For Everybody
They Might Be Giants/TMBG
Husker Du/Candy Apple Grey
The Smiths/The Queen Is Dead
New Order/Brotherhood
XTC/Skylarking
The B52's/Bouncing Off The Satellites

I'm sure I am missing others. I should do a college rock filter and upload some rare stuff I have. Hmmmm...

[identity profile] faithhopetricks.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes! I have and love all those albums, except the B's and Let's Active (who?). sigh. I miss Husker Du. A lot.

See, and now you have met one of the DJs for Shag Frenzy, which if you did not live all the way on the other coast, you'd need to come to, just like I told you on [livejournal.com profile] matociquala's journal.

[identity profile] faithhopetricks.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I SO would be there with bells on. ((sighs))

[identity profile] hey-disco-joe.livejournal.com 2006-03-23 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Let's Active was basically Mitch Easter and a rotating group of musicians. Had a semi-big college hit called "Every Word Means No" back in '84 or so. Mitch produced the first two REM albums with Don Dixon. Worth searching out for sure.

Are there people who don't like the Smithereens? They should be defriended immediately. :P

[identity profile] faithhopetricks.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 06:41 am (UTC)(link)
YES. And KILLED. Well, maybe not killed, but, you know, tickled to death or something.

(Aww, Walsh icon.)

[identity profile] surelle.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Hum, if you had a Smiths filter, I'd join it. I like the Smithereens well enough, but not fangirlishly so. ;)

What are you going to call this filter? Blood and Roses?

She had hair like Jeannie Shrimpton
Back in 1965...

But hey, that's the Blues Before & After.

Noooo, that's Behind the Wall of Sleep, and yes, the title DID come from the Lovecraft story "Beyond the Wall of Sleep" even though it has nothing to do with the song (which some people have claimed was about Aimee Mann rejecting one of the bandmembers after 'til tuesday got big).

I probably won't call it anything but the Smithereens filter, although "Blood and Roses" is a good choice too.

[identity profile] londo.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Vas ist das "Smithereens?"

[identity profile] faithhopetricks.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 06:40 am (UTC)(link)

Please add me!

[identity profile] ghilledhu.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 05:58 pm (UTC)(link)
The Smithereens? Are they that group you were playing on the way back from Philcon one year, that were so unremittingly depressing that I was ready to throw myself out of the car?

Or was that the Smiths?

[identity profile] rikibeth.livejournal.com 2006-03-22 06:09 pm (UTC)(link)
That was the Smithereens. The Smiths are even MORE depressing, if you can believe that.

I take it you don't want to be on the filter? *grin*

Include me.

Heyyyyyy, the Smithereens!! That's a name I haven't heard in a while . . . yes, please! I only know a couple of songs (I used to have the single for "A Girl Like You," at least I think that was the title), but I'd love to hear more ^-^
