Did my bit

Voted.

My day off today, so I went midmorning, and there were no lines at my polling place. Drove by my OLD polling place (before redistricting) and there was an enormous line there.

Then I went to put gas in my car, and when I went to start it again, no forward gears. Only reverse.

AAA brought me home.

BLEAH.

Kerry had better damned well win.

I think it's the day for car trouble. After I finished voting, I went out toget in my car and go to work and it wouldn't start. And the jump kit wasn't charged either.

Luckily, my friend Chris is visiting for a couple days and offered to let me drive his car in.

I DO find it interesting though that the car trouble happened after voting, not before. Otherwise, I'd think it was a conspiracy. :D

Well, that's just because you don't LOOK too Democratic. If you were, they'd have broken your car last night. Now it's just a spite thing.

There's truth there. And I didn't have my Kerry button on last night (though I do today!)

Heh -- I guess it's a good thing I walked to my polling place!

Oh, I did too. It was just trying to get from my polling place (which happens to be in my apartment building) to work that became the trouble.

Of course, you're lucky to be able to walk to work too. ;)

no car trouble here... but then I'm in the bay area in CA and I think they've just given up on us because we're so hopelessly liberal.

...then again it might have something to do with me driving my first new car of my life, bought less than 3 months ago :)

Wow, I'm glad we got back from Cambridge alright.

*hug*

Wow. This sounds like some sort of omen, but I'm having a hard time determining what it portends.

[identity profile] kcarp.livejournal.com 2004-11-02 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
One more 'omen'--we walked to the polls, then to the bank. Got a phone call from the hubby. The body work on my smooshed minivan? That they SAID would be done today? Nope. Still missing a part.

Fed Ex is in on this, too?

I went over a speed bump in the local theater's parking lot and suddenly my car only went in reverse. Had to have the transmission replaced. Hopefully yours is something cheaper.

Then I went to put gas in my car, and when I went to start it again, no forward gears. Only reverse.

"Called our favorite junkyard. $75-100 for a transmission if we pull it ourselves (major pain in the ass though, so I'd charge you at least another $50 for freezing my ass off and smashing my fingers doing it). $200 if they pull it for us. PLus another $10-30 for a warrentee on it (his computers were down so he didn't have the figure in front of him).
I'm going to call tomorrow when they are up and he can tell me for sure what he has, but he's 95% they have at least one good one in the yard.
Chris is pondering a run up there this Sat, I can either run up with him, or give him the $200 and have him bring the trans back.
Am unlikely to find a better price, as these guys had the cheapest price when I was shopping for a trans for the Caddy. Let me know."

$200 sounds excellent. Got all the info off the car today:

1989 Volvo 245 wagon
VIN YV1AX8853K1839114
4cyl Engine B 230F 2.3 liter
Engine Family KVV 2.3 V5 F885

is this everything you need, besides the $200? I can get you the $200 in short order, certainly before Saturday I think.
